Summer Cooling Practices
Fennel water, rose, coconut, sheetali breath — pitta-pacifying daily care.

What it is
Drink fennel-coriander water through the day. Splash rose water on the face. Eat sweet, watery fruits (melon, cucumber, coconut). Practise sheetali (cooling breath) 5 minutes twice a day. Avoid the sun between 11–3.
Benefits
- Prevents heat exhaustion and prickly heat
- Reduces acidity and irritability
- Keeps skin clear
- Sustains energy without crashing
Why it helps
Heat depletes the body's mineral and fluid reserves. Cooling foods are high in water and electrolytes; cooling breath drops core temperature in minutes.
Ayurvedic perspective
Summer (grishma ritu) aggravates pitta. The classical antidote: sweet, bitter and astringent tastes; foods that are liquid, soft, cooling; gentle movement; midday rest.
Modern understanding
Sports medicine confirms electrolyte-rich, cool fluids and avoiding peak-heat exertion are the foundation of heat injury prevention.
Best time to follow
All day, March – May.
Who should avoid / take care
- Iced drinks (they shock digestion; cool, not cold, is the rule)
- Excessive spicy, fried, sour foods
