Kerala, Ayurveda and the Monsoon Calendar
Why Kerala became the home of classical panchakarma — and why the monsoon is its most therapeutic season.
Kerala holds the most intact classical Ayurvedic lineage in India. Its monsoon — cool, humid, slow — opens the pores and softens the tissues in a way that makes the body unusually receptive to therapy.
That is why karkidakam, the monsoon month, is traditionally panchakarma season: medicated oils, herbal steam, gentle purification. The climate does half the work.
